Waiting on Wednesday (12): Oppression

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine where you have a chance to let other know what you cant wait to claim as your own.

by Jessica Therrien

Expected publication: February 28th 2012 by ZOVA BOOKS

Elyse knows what it means to keep a secret. She's been keeping secrets her whole life. Two, actually. First, that she ages five times slower than the average person, so that while she looks eighteen years old, she's closer to eighty. Second, that her blood has a mysterious power to heal. For Elyse, these things don't make her special. They make life dangerous. After the death of her parents, she's been careful to keep her secret as closely guarded as possible. Now, only one other person in the world knows about her age and ability. Or so she thinks. Elyse is not the only one keeping secrets. There are others like her all over the world, descendants of the very people the Greeks considered gods. She is one of them, and they have been waiting for her for a long time. Some are waiting for her to put an end to centuries of traditions that have oppressed their people under the guise of safeguarding them. Others are determined to keep her from doing just that. But for Elyse, the game is just beginning - and she's not entirely willing to play by their rules.

Why I need this: well after I fell in love with Everneath by Brodi Ashton, I'm on the hunt for more Greek mythology book!!! this just sounds so AMAZING!!!! The cover is gorgeous and this just sounds super fabulous!!! Gosh reading the synopsis over makes me just want this more!!! Gah!!!!

What are you waiting for?

Teaser Tuesday (12): Pandemonium

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can tease others.

Heres how:

  • Step 1: Grab your current read.
  • Step 2: Open to a random page.
  • Step 3: Share two (2) teaser sentences from somewhere on that page. Be careful not to include any spoilers so as not to ruin the book for others.
  • Step 4: Make sure to share the title and the author so other TT participants can add the book to their TBR piles!

And thats now you make a successful tease (as far as a book goes).
by Lauren Oliver

Look at me. I say, but he doesnt turn his head, doesnt blink, doesnt move at all. A hysterical feeling is building inside me, a shrieking voice saying wrong, wrong, wrong, and I sit up and place my hand on Alexs Chest, as cold as ice. Alex, I say, and then, a short scream: Alex!

ARC p. 2

Muahahahahah sorry I'm feeling VERY evil with this tease!!!! Hehe but oh man! Can you believe that I also didnt give anything away!?!?!! I'm so excited for this book!!! EEEP!!!! Anyways I hope you enjoy! And I hope I didnt scare anyone!

Who did you tease?

Top Ten Tuesday (9): Great Book Club Books

Top Ten Books I Think Would Make Great Book Club Picks

I consider that the Internet and ESP groups from (esp the AWESOME ONE Never Too Old for YABooks) are my book clubs I love talking to others about books.  Although I have never gone to a physical book club I LOVE all my online ladies!!!! I cant quite come up with 10, but I feel like these books bring up wonderful issues and discussions that everyone can relate to!

by Lauren Oliver
If you havent read this book yet, stop reading my damn blog and go and get it!!! And then come back to me because I'm about to start a discussion for this book!!!! How would you say goodbye? What would you do if give another chance? What really matters in your life? I can go on and on and on about this book and the themes within the pages.  While reading this book I kept questioning my own life and wonder that if I were Sam what would I do?? UGH!!! Now I feel like reading this book again and talk about it!!! If anyone ever wants to talk about this with me, PLEASE dont hesitate to contact me!!! I would love to know what everything thinks!

by Tahereh Mafi
This book is just BEAUTIFULLY written!! I love talking to people about this book!!! And lets face it, Adam is just YUMMIE!!!! Hehe I'm trying to keep this about talking about good books and not gushing over the hotness because lets face it, I could write a book about books with hot guys in it!!!! But this book is just amazing!!!! On so many levels!!!

by Jamie McGuire
Aside from the fact that this is an AMAZING book with a HOT guy in it, I love to see how people react to their relationship in general.  I think this book could spark a spicy debate about what is healthy in relationships and what people go through in new relationships!

by Cassandra Clare
This book has the most perfectly written love triangle EVER!!!! And I know that any group of women could debate to the end of time about it! But this is always just such a complex series with so much that could be talked about!!! Like how about telling people how you really feel Will!!!?!?!?!?! SERIOUSLY!!!! WILL you should have told her sooner!!! DAMN IT!!!! Ok I'm done sorry! Like I said, it can be a wonderful book to talk about!!!

by Lauren Oliver
I have to say that as a nurse this book plays to my scientific curiosity.  I was so drawn to this book and feel like I could talk to everyone about it!! do you think love is a disease?  That question alone can spark a tantalizing discussion; not just among my nursing buddies, but with everyone.  What does it mean to love someone? Is it a disease? Are all the great tragedies of the world caused by love? Ugh such an original and deep topic!!!

by J.K. Rowling
This book pretty much makes every list EVER!!! There is so much to talk about so much to learn and explore between these pages! I love these novels and could talk about them for ages!!!! And they are books that everyone can enjoy and get to know, even if they arent readers!

by E.L. James
Well I know that some people might know about this book while others dont, its not for everyone.  See my reviews for Shades and Darker. Now if you think its a book for you, read it! And when you are able to get past all the steamy scenes, lets talk about their relationship!!! Its just the same as everyone else, well mostly! I say that this can be on there for the same reason that I put Beautiful Disaster on here and thats because love makes people do crazy things when they are in love, esp. when its not their normal way to love!!!!

So anyways! If you ever want to chat about books just hit me up!!!! I love talking about books!!!

Whats your book club picks??

Head Injuries, Drugs and Cyborgs PLUS Lauren

Ok NYMBC did it again!!!! I went to Head Injuries, Drugs and Cyborgs with Megan MirandaMarissa Meyer, and Daisy Whitney hosted by the wonderful crew of Not YourMothers Book Club at Books Inc. in SF.  This was SOOOO much fun I never wanted it to end!!! I could sit there and talk to all the other bloggers and book lovers all day and night!

The authors all talks about their books (which makes me want to drop everything and read them ALL RIGHT NOW!), how they got inspired and why they love the YA genre!

And I have to say that Daisy had some WONDERFUL high school hair! She was great and shared photos with us!!! Totally 80s and totally awesome!!!! My fave was a photo of her in an orange skirt and cream sweater walking down the isle of a classroom! Daisy if you read this you must post that photo!!! It looks like a dream sequence of a guy in HS dreaming about the hot mean girl!!! You were FIERCE!!!!
Daisy Whitney
Megan talked about her changes in careers and her love of the human brain (this girl I could defiantly be friends with!!! And talk to her about the brain all the time!!!!) As a nurse this gives me hope that the book is medically accurate! Which I know she will do!!!
Megan Miranda
haha I couldn't help but put these up!!! So great!

And last but not least was Marissa and talking about how she kept losing all kinds of writing contests! But fear not Marissa I think you are a winner with your series!!! How many of those contest winners are going to have at least 4 AMAZING books published!?!?!?!
Marissa Meyer

And of course I got to come home with a whole bunch of loot and burning desires to devour more words from these amazing ladies! I dont know how they manage to do it, but after hearing them all talk about their books and how they got to writing I just want to write and read their books more!! Seriously if you have a chance to meet any of these great writers DO IT! I had such a wonderful time and can't wait to get lost in the pages of every single book I got!!! I hope to met them all again!!!!
