Waiting On Wednesday (57): The Haven by Carol Lynch Williams

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine where you have a chance to let other know what you can’t wait to claim as your own.
by Carol Lynch Williams
Expected publication: April 16th 2013 by St. Martin's Griffin
For the teens at The Haven, the outside world, just beyond the towering stone wall that surrounds the premises, is a dangerous unknown. It has always been this way, ever since the hospital was established in the year 2020. But The Haven is more than just a hospital; it is their home. It is all they know. Everything is strictly monitored: education, exercise, food, and rest. The rules must be followed to keep the children healthy, to help control the Disease that has cast them as Terminals, the Disease that claims limbs and lungs—and memories.

But Shiloh is different; she remembers everything. Gideon is different, too. He dreams of a cure, of rebellion against the status quo. What if everything they’ve been told is a lie? What if The Haven is not the safe place it claims to be? And what will happen if Shiloh starts asking dangerous questions?
Why I need this: EEEP!!!! Just sounds so amazing. Mystery, a hint of romance and in a totally weird hospital????? My kind of book!!! This one is going to be good. I can feel it!

Nobody But Us by Kristin Halbrook Blog Tour: Mini Review, Excerpt & Giveaway

by Kristin Halbrook
Bonnie and Clyde meets IF I STAY in this addictively heart-wrenching story of two desperate teenagers on the run from their pasts.

They’re young. They’re in love. They’re on the run.

Zoe wants to save Will as much as Will wants to save Zoe. When Will turns eighteen, they decide to run away together. But they never expected their escape to be so fraught with danger....

When the whole world is after you, sometimes it seems like you can’t run fast enough.

Nobody But Us, told in alternating perspectives from Will and Zoe, is an unflinching novel, in turns heartbreaking and hopeful, about survival, choices, and love...and how having love doesn’t always mean that you get a happy ending. Described as “beautiful, heartbreaking, and exhilarating” by Kody Keplinger, author of The DUFF, Nobody But Us will prove irresistible to fans of Nina Lacour, Jenny Han, and Sara Zarr.
So I am only going to write just a few words about how I feel about this book so far. And I really hate doing this because this is a promotional blog tour but I feel I have an obligation to be honest to my readers and that is telling you how I feel both good and bad. I have only read about 30% of this book and every percent has been a struggle for me. I have come to a point where it will be ok for a little while, some of the narration is spectacular but when the characters open their mouth is where my kindle starts to fly. I'm also not a fan of how young one of the characters is. The girl is 15 and the boy is 18 and they run away together after only dating for a few weeks and one of the last lines I read the girl just declared her love for the boy. I just couldn’t get into this book.

I know I haven’t said too much, but if you think you might like it please check it out. Remember reading is subjective. What doesn’t work for me might work for you. At some point in my life I might try this again but I am finding myself wanting to read something else.

As you can see from my excerpt, some of the narration is great. I found myself highlighting quite a few passages, but the dialogue and experiences for me are just to upsetting to me to get past.
I expect there to be more excitement as we cross into South Dakota. And maybe there are more lights, but the road is still quiet and lazy. I cant figure out why will keeps checking his mirrors, jittery like we’re in the middle of some big-city rush hour. I see the sign, and my heart quickens for just a moment before I settle back into the serene darkness.“That was it,” I whisper to the window.
“We shoulda brought confetti so you could throw it out the window. Or a camera.”
It feels a little as through he’s making fun of me, but I push the discomfort aside. Of course he’s not making fun of me. just teasing a little, maybe. I can do it, too.
“Yeah, but that means I’d have to teach you to use one.”
“It’s just pressing a button.”
“And pointing it. That’s two things at once. I'm not sure if boys can manage that much.”
He pulls his cell phone out of his pocket and aims it toward me, flicking on the car light at the same time. I hear the click on the camera and he turns the phone around so I can see myself on the screen.
“There. Now you got an ‘Entering South Dakota’ picture.”
I study the face on the phone. The tired eyes, the swollen lip. The new shadow on my temple. I close my eyes against it. This is what Will sees. He sees it when my face is naked, when I have my makeup on: it doesn’t matter. This is what he sees when he looks at me.
About the Author:
When Kristin was little, she wanted to be a writer, the President of the USA or the first female NFL quarterback. Despite being able to throw a wicked spiral, Kristin didn't really grow to the size needed for the NFL. Then, as she got older and studied more, she came to realize there were better ways to effect positive change than becoming president. The first one, however, stuck. Even when Kristin was pursuing other dreams, she always took time to write here and there. When she's not writing or reading (which is what she does all day, in all of her work), Kristin's spending time with pixies, her Mad Scot soulmate, and one grumpy cocker spaniel; traveling across oceans and time; cooking and baking up a storm and watching sunsets and waves crash on the beach.
Kristin currently lives, loves and explores in The Emerald City, though she occasionally makes wispy, dream-like plans to move to New York, Paris or a Scottish castle one day (if just temporarily).

Waiting On Wednesday (56): Dance of the Red Death by Bethany Griffin

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine where you have a chance to let other know what you can’t wait to claim as your own.

by Bethany Griffin
Expected publication: April 23rd 2013 by Greenwillow Books

Araby Worth’s city is being torn apart by death, disease, and corrupt forces wanting to claim it for their own. She has lost her home. Her best friend is dying. Her mother has been kidnapped. The boy who made her feel something again has betrayed her. And her father may be a murderer.

But Araby has found herself.

Despite the death and destruction all around her, she will fight for herself, for her friends, for her city. Her rebellion will take her, finally, to the mad prince’s palace, for the decadent –and sinister—masked ball. It could be a trap. It could be the end of them all. Or it could be the moment that Araby becomes the kind of hero she never dreamed she could be.
The tragic, dark, and steamy conclusion to Bethany Griffin’s Masque of the Red Death saga.
Why I need this: WILL, I NEED MORE WILL!!!!!!! That is all!!!!
Ok I will give you just a bit more, this was such a great read and I want so much more! That ending was UGH!!!! And WILL!!!!!! I want more will!!!

About Toni:
My name is Toni Aleo! (and I’m a total dork!)
I am a wife, mother of two and a bulldog, and also a hopeless romantic.
I have been told I have anger issues, but I think it’s cause of my intense love for hockey!
I am the biggest Shea Weber fan ever, and can be found during hockey season with my nose pressed against the Bridgestone Arena’s glass, watching my Nashville Predators play!
When my nose isn’t pressed against the glass, I enjoy going to my husband and son’s hockey games, my daughter’s dance competition, hanging with my best friends, taking pictures, scrapbooking, and reading the latest romance novel.
I have a slight Disney and Harry Potter obsession, I love things that sparkle, I love the color pink, I might have been a Disney Princess in a past life…probably Belle, and did I mention I love hockey?

Everbound by Brodi Ashton Blog Tour: Cole Interview

Hello all my lovely tots! I hope you are enjoy the new year! I am here with a super special treat!! I have the wonderful Cole here for my stop on the Everbound blog tour!! Its quite a wonderful interview! So I hope you all enjoy!!
Well hello Cole, welcome to the house of Tater. I am so excited that you are here. I mean really, hey *wink wink* sorry. I'm a bit excited here.
So lets get started.
How are you doing today?
Excellent. (If this were a live interview, you’d hear me providing background music on my guitar. I think better that way.)
Oh sweetness you can still play your guitar for me any time. I never mind.

What’s your favorite emotion to feed on?
That’s a tough one. There are so many scrumptious ones. But I have to say… desperation. It’s so rich and layered, like an English trifle. I also like English trifles.

Do the emotions have a taste?
It’s hard to describe. It’s like trying to explain color to someone who is blind. How can you understand without a point of reference? But I can describe the differences between certain emotions. Some, like sadness and melancholy have a savory taste. Some, like joy and hope have more of a citrus taste.
This is fascinating!!!

You say you have been around a long time, what is something you witnessed that surprised even you?
I’m always surprised at the things humans give up in the name of ‘love’. Like when King Edward VIII abdicated the throne of England so he could marry the woman he loved. Really?
I think that love will surprise you one day…just a suspicion.

Why did you want to play music? I'm sure you could have chosen any career to have, or even have more than one, but you keep with music, why?
Music, the right kind of music, draws out the most delicious smorgasbord of emotions. I wouldn’t say I chose music for a career as much as I chose feasting.

Describe yourself in 3 words
Rational. Dedicated. Hungry.

Tell me something about you that we don’t learn about in the book?
I once spent a very special evening with a member of Spain’s royal family. I won’t say which one.
Aww come one sugar, you can tell me!

Describe the perfect day. Who would you be with and what would you do?
Easy. I’d be with Nikki. We’d spend the day ruling the Everneath.

If you could have one wish, no questions, what would it be and why?
I’d wish to play the same Gibson Flying V guitar that Jimi Hendrix played. Just for a day. A day is long enough for a wish.
One of my wishes would be to see you play that!

Red Vines or Twizlers? Gross. Neither.
That was the wrong answer to this question. Its red vines, always red vines!
Sweet or salty? Salty.
Coke or Pepsi? Coke
City, Beach or Mountain? City
Burger or steak? Steak
Day or night? Night
Would you please get naked? Yes. Wait, what?
Brown or Blue eyes? Brown
Blond or brown hair? Brown
Favorite place? Bed.
OoooOOOooo I'll bed your bedroom is a site to see! Wanna show me some day?
Sorry for throwing that random one in there. ;) couldn’t help myself. Ok sorry, that was a like, I'm not sorry for asking!

And lastly, can I get a kiss from ya?
Mmm oh yea, this is def the way to start off a new year! Thank you Cole for taking your time to chat with me, I hope you will come back sometime soon!

by Brodi Ashton
Nikki Beckett could only watch as her boyfriend, Jack, sacrificed himself to save her, taking her place in the Tunnels of the Everneath for eternity — a debt that should’ve been hers. She’s living a borrowed life, and she doesn’t know what to do with the guilt. And every night Jack appears in her dreams, lost and confused and wasting away.

Desperate for answers, Nikki turns to Cole, the immortal bad boy who wants to make her his queen — and the one person least likely to help. But his heart has been touched by everything about Nikki, and he agrees to assist her in the only way he can: by taking her to the Everneath himself.

Nikki and Cole descend into the Everneath, only to discover that their journey will be more difficult than they’d anticipated — and more deadly. But Nikki vows to stop at nothing to save Jack — even if it means making an incredible sacrifice of her own.

In this enthralling sequel to Everneath, Brodi Ashton tests the bonds of destiny and explores the lengths we’ll go to for the ones we love.

About Brodi:
Because of two parents who were Greek myth geeks, I grew up thinking the latest fashion trends were inspired by Aphrodite, and a good conversational opener was, “So, which mythological character do you most resemble?” Despite these social shortcomings, I found a great husband who’s always my first reader. We live in Utah with our two young boys, who still have no idea why I'm at the computer all the time.
I received a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of Utah and a Master’s degree in International Relations from the London School of Economics.

Why I need this: I really LOVED the cheesiness from the first book and I sooo can't wait to see where this one goes. I think this book is sooooo going to turn up the drama and I can't wait!!! It's like me waiting for the next season of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. I need it!!!

What are you waiting on?

Review: Devoured by Emily Snow

Maybe I shouldn't have ignored her.
Then I admonish myself for thinking that. This is the second time this evening I've felt bad for offending Kylie and if this time is anything like the first, she's about to punch me square in the vagina. ~Kindle Location 786
by Emily Snow
I purchased this book for my own entertainment. It was so good I had to tell everyone.  This is my honest review.
Sienna Jensen had no plans to return home when she graduated college last spring—after all, her dreams lie in California. But when she discovers her grandmother’s Nashville home has been foreclosed, and the new owner has started the eviction process, Sienna has no other choice but go back to Music City. And she comes face to face with the flawed, gorgeous man she never thought she’d see again. The man who now holds the deed to her grandma’s estate.

When millionaire rock star Lucas Wolfe finds the outspoken redhead glaring at him from across a courtroom, he’s both infuriated and intrigued. He still can't get the night Sienna almost spent with him out of his mind, and the chemistry between them is as undeniable as it was two years ago. He craves Sienna more than ever. And just like everything Lucas hungers for, he’s determined to have her.

Now, Lucas will do whatever it takes to lure Sienna into his bed, even if that means making a deal with her: ten days with him, playing by his rules, and he’ll hand over the deed to her grandmother’s home. Though she agrees to the arrangement, Sienna is conflicted. Because of her duty to her family. Because of promises she’s made to herself and a past that still haunts her. And as Lucas’s game of seduction continues, and Sienna is introduced to his dark, erotic world and even darker background, she realizes that at any moment, she could be devoured.

*This novel contains adult situations and content*

Ugh holy fucking wow!! I didn't even realize I finished this baby when I got to the end on my Kindle and it was like let people know you finished! I was like wait? You mean no more Lucas??? But I want more! I want so much more!!!

So not what I was expecting when I got this baby! I was expecting just a cute funny read and what I got was so much more! It was complex, it was steamy and oh man!!! It had some of the most fun twists and turns I have read about in a long time!

Honestly I wanted this book for the cover. And bought it on that basis alone. I hope it had been know by others how much of a cover whore that I am. You make a sexy cover and I pretty much will read it. I know I'm horrible for that fact but when you put sexy tattooed guys on a cover, it gets read by me. Period. End of story! So to say I was pleasantly trilled with what was inside is an I understatement!!! I loved not only the cover of this book, BUT also the story behind the cover. That makes me a very very happy book nerd.

SEXY rockstars for the win!
This book came (yea it's a pun) with a sexy as all get out fucking hot rock star!! A hot damn, sexier than now, fucking rockstar! Happy Happy Mama! I mean really I think this book was written for me. It was so yummie and fucking hot! It even had some kink I wasn't expecting.

Loved it all and did not want to stop. I don't ever want it to stop! It has some grammar issues with some missing words in sentences and such but loved it anyways!

Sienna was a great mind to be in even if I found her to be a little weak at times. But I'm sure I would be weak in the knees with Lucas around also. Maybe with the novella coming about their first encounter we will get to know more about the relationship between these two.

Lucas would be a great man to be in bed with!!! Seriously!! He was just to much hotness to handle!! I'm such a sucker for rock stars and guys with tattoos and he has both!!! Rawr!

And I loved the rest if the characters also! I would have loved to see some of it expanded on a bit more. The back-story and character development could have been hashed out more to give us more story. But it’s a wonderful start and I can wait, CAN NOT FUCKING WAIT for book two to continue this story!!

If you are looking for a quick and dirty read with memorable characters and a fucking sexy as shit rockstar, you need to pick up this book! AND AND AND! Get the novella and come in my waiting cave and have a party with me while I wait for book two!
His lips curl up into a hungry smile and I know there's a caveat. "Oh, we'll fuck Sienna. Believe me, it's been bound to happen since I first laid eyes on you. But this time it's going to be because you bed me. Not the other way around. And when you do bed me, it's because you're consensual and ready to completely give yourself to me." ~Kindle Location 759

Review: Through The Ever Night by Veronica Rossi

Through Aria has been on the outside for months, she still marveled at wrinkles and scars and signs of age. She'd thought them disgusting once. Now the mans leathery face almost made her smile. Bodies on the outside worse experiences like souvenirs. ~ARC p. 32
Through The Ever Night
by Veronica Rossi
I received an ARC copy of this book. This is my honest review
It's been months since Aria last saw Perry. Months since Perry was named Blood Lord of the Tides, and Aria was charged with an impossible mission. Now, finally, they are about to be reunited. But their reunion is far from perfect. The Tides don't take kindly to Aria, a former Dweller. And with the worsening Aether storms threatening the tribe's precarious existence, Aria begins to fear that leaving Perry behind might be the only way to save them both.

Threatened by false friends, hidden enemies, and powerful temptations, Aria and Perry wonder, Can their love survive through the ever night?

In this second book in her spellbinding Under the Never Sky trilogy, Veronica Rossi combines fantasy and dystopian elements to create a captivating love story as perilous as it is unforgettable.

Through The Ever Night was chalk full of action, never ending trouble and has our characters really testing the theory of what would you do to survive and make sure the people you loved survived also?

I instantly because a fan of Veronica after reading UTNS and also being lucky enough to hear her be able to talk about her books at a few book events I have attended. They way she describes her inspiration for the books makes it hard to resist wanting to read them. And when I was done with UTNS I was lucky enough to instantly pick up TTEN and eeeep! It made me so happy!

Veronica again paints a world that is so real and easy you feel like you are right there with Aria and Roar storming the castle. Or on the beach with Perry watching the storm come in. This story enters your brain and flows all around. I feel the storms, the salt in the air, the feeling of falling. It's so easy to be there.

In Under The Never Sky we have a dual pov that was intertwined. Perry and Aria journey together and discover each other and themselves. In book two (SPOILER!!!!) Perry and Aria’s journey is separated. Their stories aren't intertwined and so we are going back and forth between two stories. Perry's struggle to prove he is blood lord and Aria’s struggle to find where she belongs and follow through on the threat from Hess.

Sometimes this book felt like it caught the second book syndrome where it's just tying book one to book three and almost didn't feel like the book was needed but damn did the last 100 pages ever change my mind!! What a roller coaster and do I ever need the last book NOW NOW NOW!!! The journey sometimes felt long, having to follow two different stories and two different journeys. It really is two stories in one. But damn that ending. Can't wait to see where it goes!!
What drove me to keep reading was the need to bring these two their happy endings. You know it's there and at the end of this book it's almost complete. I really REALLY enjoyed Aria’s journey and watching her grown into her Sense. It was wonderful and really made me enjoy her character more. I fell hard with watching these two characters grown into who they are. Aria finally seeing her life. Perry finally seeing his strength. But a glimmer of hope has broke through. This sets up what will only be an incredible journey in book three.

The action is never ending and at some points I want to throw this baby and scream nooooooo!!!!! And in fact I almost did!! I know at least one pleading tweet WAS sent in the middle of the night to Veronica asking why!! Why did you do that!!! All I got was a sorry in response. I still hurt from that part!

And on a side note, I am posting this review quite a few months after I read this book and looking through the quotes I am getting all emotional again!!! I just...this book I almost forgot how amazing it is!!! Its beautiful and Aria even grew on me so much! And Roar. These two, god I can't even describe what I feel. And my quote below, still makes me cry. Uh yea, this one right here:
She thought to Roar so much that it became natural and she stopped thinking about thinking and just thought. Roar heard everything. He knew her mind fully, openly, the same way Perry knew her tempers. Between the two of them, she thought, she was known completely.
She'd been seeking the comfort of a place. Of walls. A roof. A pillow to rest her head on. Now she realized that the people she loved where what gave her life shape, and comfort, and meaning. Perry and Roar were home. ARC p. 298-299
If you loved the first book this is a wonderful continuation in the Perry and Aria story and even Roar who steals my heart. OH man!!! Roar!!! That boy is something else. I want a story of just him! Like a million pages. Sorry Perry but Roar is my man. The same beautiful story telling and stimulation of all your senses continues in this book. Fans won't be disappointed!!

Roar lead her along a trail that wove through sand dunes. Aether light filtered through the clouds, casting a glow over the path and the tall, rustling grass. As they walked, a rushing sound mixed with the low whistle of the wind. It moved though her—hiss and whisper and roar—growing louder and clearer with every step she took.
Aria stopped as they came over the last dune. The ocean stretched out before her, alive, spreading to the end of everything. She heard a million waves, each one distinct, ferocious, but together a chorus that was serene and grander than anything she'd ever known. She'd seen the ocean plenty of times in the Realms, but it hadn’t prepared her for the real thing.
“If beauty had a sound, this would be it.”
“I knew it would help,” Roar said, his smile a white flash in the darkness. “Auds say the sea holds every sound that’s ever been heard. All you have to do is listen.” ~ARC p. 36

Then comes Sam. When Anna actually meets a boy who is more than just useful, whose family eats dinner together, laughs, and tells stories, the truth about love becomes clear. And she finally learns how it feels to have something to lose—and something to offer. Real, shocking, uplifting, and stunningly lyrical, Uses for Boys is a story of breaking down and growing up.

About Erica
When Erica was a kid all she did was write. She dropped out of high school and attended the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at Naropa University where she was surrounded by writers and artists.
But then, in Erica's early twenties, she got a job. She worked hard at that job for 15 years and didn't write a word.
Then this happened: Erica walked into a bookstore and bought two books by Francesca Lia Block. No particular reason, she just liked their covers. Then Erica read everything Francesca wrote. She read all the YA she could. She still does. Erica think's the world that happens between 13 and 17 is everything.
She quit her job. Studied writing. And then spent three and a half years writing Uses for Boys. Now she's working on a new novel and it's like falling down a hole. Writing her first novel taught her nothing about writing the next one.
